Chairmans blog

The Chairman of Essex County Council has a number of roles such as presiding over meetings of the CouncilĀ  but the key role is being an ambassador for the County insofar as Civic and Ceremonial activities are concerned and meeting and greeting important visitors to Essex.

The role is politically impartial and involves supporting all Members of the Council and in particular encouraging citizens of Essex in their voluntary activities which contribute so much to the overall wellbeing of the County.

In my blogs I look forward to providing snapshots of activities which I have the privilege of attending in my role as Chairman and which I hope will provide a flavour of the many and varied achievements of the Citizens of this remarkable County.

Cllr John Jowers First Chairman's Blog

One of the first engagements I was privileged to attend on becoming Chairman was a Service of Choral Evensong attended by the Prior of England and the Islands, Surgeon Rear Admiral Lionel Jarvis CBE DL KStJ in the Parish Church of St John the Baptist, Little Maplestead. This is one of only four round churches still in use in England which was built on a site given to the Order of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem, known as the Knights Hospitaller, and is still associated with the Order today

As my two years as Chairman of the Essex County Council comes to an end, I am able to reflect upon the great privilege it has been to serve the Council and the people of Essex. It has, on many occasions, also been a very humbling role when I have witnessed at first hand so many members of our community committing themselves to the support of others. As a result, I am not only amazed at what a great place our County is to live in but what wonderful people we live among and serve. I wish the forty fourth Chairman of the Essex County Council, Cllr John Jowers and his wife Susan, every success throughout the next two years.
